Visa (Electronic Travel Authorization)

All foreign nationals, except Indians, are required to have a valid visa to enter Nepal. Visa application can be made at the Embassy (in person or via post) or can be received upon arrival in Nepal.

Requirements for tourist visa:

  1. Duly filled in the visa application form. Click the link below for making application and submit the visa application confirmation page.

  1. Passport and its copies (bio-page and other relevant pages if necessary)

Original passport with at least 6 months validity at the time of entry to Nepal and containing at least 2 blank pages.

  1. Visa fees can be paid in cash (for now).
  2. If application is sent by post, self-addressed pre-paid return envelope with tracking number.

Additional Documents Required for Refugee/Travel Document Holder

  1. Sponsorship letter from a Nepali citizen.
  2. Copy of the citizenship certificate of the sponsor
  3. Hotel reservation/booking
  4. Valid Portuguese residence card
  5. It takes at least 7 working days to process the visa application of a refugee/Travel document holder.

The visa is valid for six months from the date of issue. The applicant should enter Nepal within six months from the visa issue date. The actual duration of stay is calculated from the date of the entry to Nepal.

The visa fee, once paid, is not refundable.

Application and processing time

The opening time for submission of visa application in person at the Embassy is 9:30-13:00 hrs and 14:00-15:30 hrs. The visa stamped passports can be collected after one working day within the consular hours. It takes 2-3 working days to process the visa applications received by post.

Visas on arrival

Nationals of most of the countries of the world, including all European nationals, can also obtain tourist visa upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, or other entry points via land. However, the nationals of the following countries cannot obtain visa upon arrival: Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Swaziland, Somalia, Liberia, Iraq, Ethiopia, Palestine, Syria and Afghanistan.

Diplomatic and Official Visas

The diplomatic and official visa shall be issued for 30 days. The duration of the visa can be extended, if required, from the Department of Consular Services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kathmandu at the request of the foreign mission concerned.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMATIC AND OFFICIAL VISAS:

Please note that the passport should be valid for at least six months from entry into Nepal and should have at least two empty pages).

Gratis Visa

- Children below 10 years except for US citizens

- Foreign nationals of Nepali origin who hold Non-resident Nepali identity card (NRN ID Card).

- Citizens of the People Republic of China.

- Visa for up to 30 days for the citizens of SAARC countries (except Afghan nationals) if visiting Nepal for the first time in a given visa year. Afghan citizens are eligible for gratis visa on arrival onlu upon the recommendation of the Department of Immigration of Nepal.
